With University of the Philippines Diliman being the designated host for this year’s ASEAN University Network-Technology Enhanced Personalized Learning (AUN-TEPL) Symposium titled “Student Engagement and Technology-Enhanced Personalized Learning,” the Interactive Learning Center Diliman (ILCD), along with the other offices under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (OVCAA), spearheaded the event which took place at the University of the Philippines Bonifacio Global City campus on October 2, 2025. AUN-TEPL is a thematic network under the ASEAN University Network (AUN). Led by Chairperson Associate Professor Tamas Makany of Singapore Management University,  co-lead universities include Mahidol University, Universiti Malaya, University Brunei Darussalam, and the University of the Philippines Diliman. AUN-TEPL fosters collaboration among ASEAN universities to improve student success through technology-enhanced personalized learning initiatives. The ILCD, mandated to help in the development of faculty expertise in the use of technologies in teaching and learning in UP Diliman, headed the hybrid symposium’s program, publicity, and documentation. Opening the event were welcome remarks delivered by University of the Philippines President Angelo A. Jimenez, AUN-TEPL chairpersons Lieven Demeester and Tamas Makany, and AUN Executive Director Thanapan Laiprakobsup. Dragan Gašević, a professor of learning analytics at Monash University, kicked off the discussion as the keynote speaker with his presentation: “Generative AI in Education: Between Promise and Evidence.” Esteemed professors and faculty members from different AUN-TEPL network member universities also gave their contributions to the topic during the research presentations as well as the session and panel discussions. Remolona presents their group research titled: “Bridging the AI Gap in ASEAN Education: Assessing Impacts and Developing Strategies for Effective Teaching with AI in Higher Education.” Photo by Jefferson Villacruz, UPDIO. Director Miguel Remolona presented his group research titled: “Bridging the AI Gap in ASEAN Education: Assessing Impacts and Developing Strategies for Effective Teaching with AI in Higher Education.”  The research, involving researchers from different universities across different nations in the ASEAN region, is in its first stages, aiming to assess the usage rate of AI across ASEAN universities. The panel discussion was joined by Program Development Associate (PDA) for Education and Technology Advancement Jessica Junio-Jimenez sharing her experience on their topic “Student-initiated engagement with TEPL and Teacher-motivated student engagement to TEPL.”  Apart from talks and presentations, PDA for Systems Development and Quality Assurance Adelson Chua also organized a student competition named “Student-driven Technology-Enhanced Personalized Learning Showcase (STEPS).” The undergraduate competition aimed at highlighting innovative ways students integrate technology to personalize their learning experiences with students from AUN-TEPL member universities participating. The top 5 winners involving students from the Singapore Management University, UP Diliman, and Universiti Malaya were announced during the symposium.  Student-driven Technology-Enhanced Personalized Learning Showcase (STEPS) competition winners and representatives pose with their certificates alongside UP Diliman Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Maria Vanessa Lusung-Oyzon (Leftmost), UP Diliman Chancellor Edgardo Carlo Vistan II (Second from the right), and ILCD PDA for Systems Development and Quality Assurance Adelson Chua (rightmost). The ASEAN University Network on Technology-Enhanced Personalised Learning (AUN-TEPL) along with the University of the Philippines Diliman is opening its online webinar registration for the 5th AUN-TEPL Sympsium: Student Engagement and Technology-Enhanced Personalized Learning, taking place on October 02, 2025 at the University of the Philippines Bonifacio Global City. In the rapidly evolving educational landscape, student engagement and personalized learning have become critical components of academic success. The integration of technology in education offers unprecedented opportunities to tailor learning experiences to individual student needs, thereby enhancing both engagement and outcomes. In line with these goals, the University of the Philippines Diliman has been selected to host the 5th AUN-TEPL Symposium this year. This symposium will provide a platform for educators to explore strategies for leveraging technology in personalized learning and enable participants to engage with international experts, enriching their perspectives on different learning technologies. Find out more about the Symposium AUN-TEPL Established in 2019, the ASEAN University Network for Technology-Enhanced Personalized Learning (AUN-TEPL) is a thematic network under the AUN, hosted by the Singapore Management University. It aims to foster collaboration among ASEAN universities to enhance student success through technology-driven personalized learning. Its key objectives are as follows: Build capacity amongst participating universities through a series of symposiums Create a platform for universities to exchange educational tools and content Promote technology-enhanced personalized learning as an area for inter-university research collaboration
