Memorandum No. ILCD MFMR 2024 – 001

Posts and Announcements Memorandum No. ILCD MFMR 24-001: UVLê March 4 Downtime and Data Loss Memorandum March 15, 2024 Dear UVLê Users, We regret to inform you that the University Virtual Learning Environment (UVLê) experienced an unexpected outage on 4 March 2024, starting at 4:00 pm. Service was restored on 5 March 2024, at 5:45 am. Unfortunately, two of the three database replicates got corrupted due to improper shutdowns resulting from errors, with incidents occurring on 1 March and the most recent one on 4 March. Consequently, some data, including quizzes, assignment submissions, and edits, has become irrecoverable despite multiple recovery attempts by the UVLê Team. We have loaded a backup from 1 March 2024, at 2:00 am, to ensure UVLê is operational at the earliest possible time. Additionally, we are taking additional measures to prevent such interruptions in the future, including increasing our monitoring and alarm systems. For now, we have also created backups of the corrupted database to see if there are other ways to recover the data. We will do our utmost to restore the data but we cannot guarantee that all the data will be intact. This is due to the nature of the corruption and the data that we can restore is limited to what was not influenced. We sincerely apologize as we understand that the whole UP community was affected by this. We were unable to foresee this potential failure in the system. We will continue trying to recover the data to understand as well how we will recover the data faster, regardless if the data is still relevant due to the potential actions that you might take. For any inquiries or clarifications, please contact us at ilcdhelpdesk.upd@up.edu.ph. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and assure you that we are committed to preventing similar occurrences in the future. Thank you for your continuous support.

Posts and Announcements ILC Diliman Basics of UVLê for New Faculty February 5, 2024 1st TEC 2024 – Participants(Image credits to OAT – OVCAA) The first Teaching Effectiveness Course (TEC) of the year kicked off on February 1, 2024, with an insightful session on the University Virtual Learning Environment (UVLe), the University of the Philippines’ official learning management system (LMS). Organized by the Office for the Advancement of Teaching (OAT), the session featured Dr. Miguel Francisco M. Remolona, Director of the Interactive Learning Center (ILC) Diliman, as the keynote speaker. Dr. Remolona introduced UVLê as more than just a digital extension of the classroom. He described it as a dynamic space where educators can streamline their teaching, engage students more effectively, and integrate technology seamlessly into their courses. He guided participants through essential features such as accessing UVLe via DilNet and UP Mail, customizing user profiles, and linking UP Mail for a more efficient and secure experience. Going beyond the basics, Dr. Remolona demonstrated how UVLe empowers teachers with tools designed to meet their instructional needs. He walked the participants through key functionalities available under the basic teacher role, including CRS-UVLe integration, course page setup, and the creation of interactive learning modules. His hands-on approach made the platform’s capabilities more tangible, showing educators how to maximize UVLe for a smoother and more engaging teaching experience. Dr. Remolona was assisted by Assistant Professor Adelson N. Chua, Training, Education, and Development PDA of ILC Diliman, together with ICT Associates Ms. Carrisse Michaela Serrano and Ms. Pauline Angel Carag, as well as ICT Assistant Ms. Janine Aira Ribao. Their collaboration ensured that participants received both practical guidance and technical support throughout the session.
