10 BEST UPGRADES IN UVLê 3

ILC Diliman 10 BEST UPGRADES IN UVLê 3 January 12, 2018 Users can expect a more inspired look and better user-experience in UVLê 3. Most procedures remained the same but there are several useful design and function improvements in UVLê 3. In no particular order, ILC Diliman presents 10 best improvements in UVLê 3 and other notable changes. 1. Course creation via CRS Teachers with Dilnet accounts may now open a course via CRS. Click the course request link in the instructor dashboard to open a page for a class. Requests are automatically processed every 3:00 AM. Teachers will receive an e-mail about the status of their request, and students will be enrolled to the course and will be notified about the newly created course. 2. Basic Teacher role for starters By default, teachers will be assigned to a “basic teacher” role. A basic teacher has access to commonly used tools only. It is designed for teachers who are new to UVLê or who need basic tools only. Basic teachers can create forum, poll, and assignment. The role also allows sharing of files (including images, videos etc.), and websites. If a user wants to use advanced features (e.g. online quiz), the user can switch to a “teacher” role anytime. The switch role option is found under the change setting menu. 3. Mobile friendly site The new UVLê site is mobile responsive. With stable internet connection, It can be comfortably viewed in a mobile browser in tablets or smart phones. UVLê 3 doesn’t have its own mobile application yet, but you may access UVLê 3 using the official Moodle Mobile application. 4. Pop-up guides For certain pages, a guided tour will pop-up on your first visit. Pop-up guides may be revisited by clicking your name then “Guide Me On This Page”. This shall help users easily understand UVLê 3. 5. Upload/download several files at the same time If an activity requires several references or materials, teachers may upload several files in a zip folder. When uploading a zip file, opt to save it as a “folder” resource. In UVLê 3, students can download the whole folder as a zip file. This feature is not available in the previous version. 6. Assess assignments online The submitted document is automatically converted to PDF, and teachers may use the PDF annotation tool for feedback and grading. Students will see the annotated version. 7. File box for adding attachments in assignments Teachers can now easily attach files in assignment activities. Attaching files in assignments is easier in UVLê 3. 8. New roles for team teaching There are new roles that may help in team teaching situations and/or teaching assistantship (e.g. content managers, facilitators etc.). For example, the content manager can help the teacher manage resources (files, videos etc.) within a course page. The content manager could be a staff, teaching assistant, or another teacher. Contact ILC Diliman for more information. 9. Recycle bin for deleted activities/resources Teachers may restore deleted activities/resources in the recycle bin. The recycle bin will be seen under change settings > course administration, if there are deleted activities/resources. 10. Easier way of editing section titles In edit mode, section titles can be easily edited. Click the edit icon , type the new title, and press enter. Other notable changes: The “Change Setting” Menu. In UVLê 3.0, “course administration”, “switch role to…”, and other administration menus are located in the “Change Settings” menu at the upper right corner of the page. Searching Courses. To search courses, click Quick Links > View All Courses. Plagiarism Checker. CROT plagiarism checker is no longer supported in MOODLE. In UVLê 3, the CROT option can only compare files within the site. As a supplement, the assignment activity is linked to a free third party online plagiarism checker. Others: Teachers may input topic tags (similar to hashtags) in each activity or resource. Important forum posts can now be pinned to the top of your list, making them more visible to your students. When setting up a workshop, the teacher can now specify the type of file for submission. New mechanics in using/editing the gradebook. And other minor changes.
