ILC Diliman holds workshop on Business and Feature-writing

ILC Diliman Director Joseph Ryan Lansangan (rightmost front-row), speaker Mr. Marti Rodriguez (center front-row) and participants of the workshop.

Computer Laboratory Room 103 (ILC Diliman) -- Interactive Learning Center (ILC) Diliman and other offices under OVCAA attended a business and feature-writing workshop last March 15, 2018. The workshop was held by ILC Diliman to help improve the skills of its staff (as well as those from other OVCAA offices).

Mr. Marti Rodriguez facilitated the 3-hour workshop.  Mr. Rodriguez is an instructor from the College of Arts and Letters, and is a speech and visual communication specialist.  He is also currently ILC Diliman’s Program Development Associate (PDA) for Blended Learning and Teaching.

“I think it’s apt that we had this training,” said Rodriguez. “More and more offices need to be aware that proper business writing is a must when writing letters or memos.”

Seminar workshop on Business and feature-writing titled: "Write the Right Way: A Workshop in Business and Feature-Writing"

The workshop covered basic elements of business writing and fundamentals of news/feature writing. The twenty-one participants were grouped into four and were tasked to formulate (before and after lecture/discussion) business letters and news articles. Each group presented their outputs, and at the end of the workshop, they shared their learnings/takeaways.

“Creating a letter must only consist of important details and we should limit adding unnecessary information that confuses the addressee,” said Group Two.  Another group mentioned the value of using the “inverted triangle” (most important, other details, good-to-know) when writing letters and articles.

With the success of this event, ILC Diliman commits to offer more advanced seminar-workshops on business and news/feature-writing, as well as on oral communications, presentation skills, and business conduct & ethics.

Upgrading of Pages.UPD web service

To all Pages.UPD users:

We are excited to announce that Pages.UPD (or simply, Pages) will be upgraded on Friday, March 16 at 1pm!  The upgraded Pages will include changes to the look and feel, with the website now being responsive for both mobile and desktop versions.  We have also improved the structure and organization of the contents and/or menus, as well as added some useful tools and features, so creating and editing website will be as uncomplicated as ever.  There are other minor but significant changes to make your and your audience’s Pages experience much better.  (More details of the changes are found below.

As you may have noticed these past days, the editing mode (or logging in to) Pages was temporarily disabled.  This was done to allow the technical team to modify some of the users’ websites in preparation for the updating.  A few pages, plug-ins, or settings were modified for implementation to the latest version.  Contents remain the same but lay-out may have changed, and trivial (non-useful) tools may now not be supported.  We recommend you to kindly check your websites and/or log-in to Pages the soonest after Friday’s updating.

Do let us know if you will encounter issues on your website/s or have concerns about Pages.  Your feedback is very important to us as we strive to improve on our web services. You may email us ( or send a ticket via our helpdesk (

Thank you very much and we look forward to you optimizing the potentials of Pages!

It was the second batch of UP Faculty members who attended the Training on Basics of Teaching with UVLe 3 this 2018.

Before the training started, each participant had their training course page created for them in UVLê 3. The course pages were used as their training page for the editing and setup of the activity resources and the training course page.

Mr. Michael Van Supranes discussed the features of UVLê under the basic teacher role and demonstrate its uses with the help of the training assistants. Some of the said features are: basic navigations, private files, messaging, course (editing/setup/formatting), and other activity resources like forum, assignment, choice (Poll), label, and file resources. Advanced features in the resource can be unlocked by upgrading to a full-teacher role.

After the discussion and demonstration of UVLê 3 and its features, the participants showed an interest in using the system for their future classes.
