ILC Diliman holds Basics of Teaching with UVLê 3 for Institute of Biology, UP Diliman

The Interactive Learning Center (ILC) Diliman conducted the Basics of Teaching for the  University Virtual Learning Environment (UVLê) training last September 22, 2019 at the Institute of Biology (IB). The training for the IB faculty was initiated by Dr. Carmela P. Espanola for the participants to fully utilize UVLe and implement online activities for their classes.

OVCAA-ILC Diliman Project Development Associate (PDA) for EdTech Advancement Asst. Prof. Michael Van Supranes led the UVLe training together with ILC Diliman Director Joseph Ryan Lansangan. ICT Associates Mr. Tristan Jake A. Alcantara and Ms. Jennifer I. Estrada also helped in facilitating the UVLe training. 

The UVLe training focused on the Basic Teacher role in UVLe and some of the more advanced features and tools available to enhance teaching and learning. The Basic Teacher role has basic capabilities in setting up activities (Assignment, Choice, and Forum) and resources (File, Label, and URL). Setting up the Gradebook, using the Question bank and Quiz activity were among the discussed advanced features.

ILC Diliman holds Basics of Teaching with UVLê 3 for UPEPP

The Interactive Learning Center (ILC) Diliman conducted a  Basics of Teaching with University Virtual Learning Environment (UVLê) workshop last August 5, 2019. Fifteen faculty members from the UP Extension Program for Pampanga and Olongapo (UPEPP) participated in the workshop.

Project Development Associate (PDA) for EdTech Advancement Asst. Prof. Michael Van Supranes from the School of Statistics led the workshop, assisted by ICT Associates Mr. Tristan Jake Alcantara, Mr. John Mark Roco and Ms. Jennifer Estrada. Also present during the workshop was ILC Diliman Director Associate Prof. Joseph Ryan G. Lansangan, Ph.D.

Ms. Jennifer Estrada is the latest ICT Associate in the ILC office. She primarily maintains and improves the UVLê to ensure that UVLê’s functionality. She observed that initially, the participants had a hard time in navigation of the basic elements UVLê has to offer. (READ: What is UVLê?, Basics of Teaching with UVLê 3)

“Sir Van [and the team] attended to their questions after teaching a specific lesson, such as logging-in to [the] system, creating courses, lessons, etc.,” she said. 

The participants were able to experience how to navigate the homepage, manage a course, put content, share resources, post and collect assignments and many others.

“Nakita naman po namin na masaya sila sa natutunan nila,” she added.

ILC Diliman concludes Midyear Internship Program

The Interactive Learning Center Diliman had a successful Midyear Internship program from June 03 to August 02, 2019. The interns from UP Diliman Department of Computer Science were assigned to enhance and improve ILC Diliman web applications.

The internship program was supervised by ILC Diliman ICT Associates Tristan Jake Alcantara and John Mark Roco.

Daine Daling, one of the interns in the initiative, is hopeful that the outputs can be considered for future use of the department. “[We believe that we] have contributed to a new generation of helpful applications for further improvement and eventual use by the university.”

“The internship was an immersive work environment which gave me a glimpse of the web development industry and equipped me with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue the field,” he added.
